  • Successful flea control involves: Eliminating fleas from your dog and strict environmental flea control.

  • Flower essence therapy or flower therapy was developed by a human doctor, Edward Bach, during the 1930's. During his years in practice Dr. Bach developed the belief that people could be grouped based upon their emotional states, and that these emotions were the root cause of many of their diseases.

  • Flubendazole is used to control roundworms and some types of tapeworms. Your veterinarian will advise a deworming programme for your pet.

  • Fludrocortisone is a synthetic adrenocortical steroid with mineralocorticoid activity.

  • Flunixin is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve pain and inflammation. Your veterinary surgeon may prescribe flunixin to reduce pain in arthritis or following surgical operations.

  • During the summer months, pet rabbits may be affected by maggot infestation. Different terms are used for this but fly strike is a common one.

  • Food allergy is but one of about five specific allergies or hypersensitivities known to affect dogs. It is well known that people can be allergic to certain foods, but it is only relatively recently that food allergies have come to be routinely diagnosed in our dogs.

  • Furosemide (also called Frusemide) is used to help reduce the amount of water in the pet's body by increasing the flow of urine.

  • Garlic, the bulb of the plant Allium sativum, is a well-known herb and popular ingredient for cooking. It is supplied in raw form as the fresh bulb; as a liquid alcohol extract; or in gelatin capsules.

  • GDV is a very much more descriptive term than the old fashioned name, bloat, which is still often used for the condition in farm animals. It means the dog's stomach is distended with gas and may in addition have twisted upon itself thus effectively trapping the gas in the stomach.
